Sharon came to Achungo when she was about eight years old after both her parents died in a road accident. Before Achungo, she had to leave public school because no one could pay her fees.
At Achungo, she received a scholarship and began to thrive. As an 8th grader, she wrote that she hoped to become a lawyer so she could “help the poor and children who are orphans.”
After high school, Sharon joined the Kenya Army in 2021.
She later shared:
“At the beginning it was not easy for me as a lady. The training was very hard and tiring.”
But she persevered.
After completing training in January 2022, she wrote:
“For now, I enjoy my work, although sometimes it is hard because we stay in the bush.”
She expressed gratitude for the foundation Achungo gave her:
“I am so thankful and grateful as I would not have made it this far without you, such as I was before Achungo.”
In 2024, Sharon did something remarkable.
She remembered that Achungo’s youngest preschool and kindergarten students often walk miles to school. She sent funds to cover much of the cost of purchasing a van so that small children could be transported safely.
